Sheffield-based band Bring Me The Horizon (BMTH) have finally dropped their much-anticipated album, ‘POST HUMAN: NeX GEn’, at the stroke of midnight on 24 May. The surprise release was announced through a cryptic post on X/Twitter, accompanied by a minute-long teaser video. The band’s message was simple yet intriguing: “BMTH invites you to Ascend!+,” they wrote. “‘POST HUMAN: NeX GEn’ [out midnight 24.05]”.
The album, initially expected to release last September following an announcement at the band’s headline debut at Download Festival, faced several delays due to “unforeseen circumstances”. These delays have only heightened the anticipation among fans who have eagerly awaited the follow-up to 2020’s ‘POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR’.
This release marks the band’s first project since the unexpected departure of longtime member Jordan Fish, who had been with the group since 2012. Despite the setbacks, BMTH frontman Oli Sykes and the rest of the band have kept fans on their toes with periodic updates and teasers. Just last month, they released a teaser clip featuring a robot voiceover declaring, “You cling to your virtual identity as if it were your very soul. Pathetic. I’m here to wipe away the detritus of your existence… It’s time for a new era. Initialising NeX GEn.”
Sykes has previously described the new album as “unhinged” in an interview with NME, highlighting its departure from the polished sounds typical of larger bands. “I wouldn’t say it’s a hyper-pop album, but I’ve definitely been inspired by that world,” Sykes said. “I admire how obnoxious, trashy and in your face that music feels, which is what I was drawn to when I got into emo, hardcore and screamo. Let’s be unhinged, let’s stop trying to make all the edges smooth.”
In March, during an appearance at the BRIT Awards, Sykes provided an update, stating that while the album was nearly complete, it still needed some finishing touches. “Every time we think we’ve got it, we get another song,” he explained. “It’s going to be right good though, it’s our best album ever… Worth the wait.”
The album has already generated buzz with the release of the single ‘Kool-Aid’. Other tracks speculated to be on the LP include ‘DArkSide’, ‘LosT’, ‘AmEN!’, ‘DiE4u’, and ‘sTraNgeRs’.
‘POST HUMAN: NeX GEn’ represents a new chapter for BMTH, promising to blend their signature sound with new, bold influences. Fans are eager to see if the album lives up to the band’s high expectations and marks a successful evolution in their musical journey.
